Dr. Mohamed Abdelwahab Abdelfattah is a composer from Egypt. He workes as Associate Professor of Music at the Cairo Conservatory, Academy of Arts (University of Arts in Cairo). During 2007-2009, he is a Visiting Faculty Scholar "Sabbatical" at the School of Music in the College of Fine Arts at Boston University.He previously studied at the University of Performing Arts and Theater in Vienna, where he obtained a terminal degree Magister Artium in composition in 1996, focusing on electro-acoustic and experimental music. Later, he obtained a Doctor of Arts degree from the Academy of Arts in Cairo (1998). Abdelwahab has taught composition, instrumentation and orchestration, music theory, world music, harmony, counterpoint, acoustics, and electro-acoustic music courses for various institutions in Egypt. He is a multidisciplinary artist combining many fields in his compositions such as: poetry, painting, photography and cinema montage. He frequently combines Eastern and Western elements, reflecting his view of the importance of cross-cultural experience. He mixes the tone color of traditional melodies with instrumental sound effects and uses unconventional and natural sound-samples from, for example, machines, tools and daily-life ambient sound.
